What we do

The original concept for the festival was to create special memories by bringing music that everyone can enjoy, no matter what your age or background to the Blackdown hills, a place where you wouldn’t normally see these sort of wonders.

Since then its been a rollercoaster ride, especially during covid, but we love what we do and the sense of community and joy that it brings.

As well as putting on the festival most years, we run local events, and provide support to the local community for anything connected to music and the arts.

We’re proud of what we have achieved and have brought to our rural community and the money we have donated to local charities, over the past 10 years.

SOCIAL IMPACT

HERE’S JUST SOME OF THE THINGS WE HAVE DONE

We have produced events that directly support local charities and needs. The Field sessions at Kentisbeare House raised money for Kentisbeare Church and we have also raised over £7,000 for Crohn's & Colitis UK plus Colostomy UK (50/50 split).

We managed to put 2 socially distanced events at the Keepers Cottage in time of Covid, which hopefully provided some much needed relief from being in lockdown.

In 2023 we Supported Kentisbeare C of E primary schools music curriculum by purchasing 30 Ukuleles. We have also funded for their Year 6 pupils to have Samba drum tuition in the summer term

We have helped fund and support events that others are producing. Examples of which are the Uffculme Beer Festival, which raises funds for the christmas lights, the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and  fundraisers such as one in Clyst St Lawrence which raised money for Cancer research. This year we supported ‘The Mix’ music festival (run by devon and torbay music education hub) which aims to enthuse and inspire children and young people about perfomance, music and creativity.

We have supported charities that are close to our local community. We have donated to Devon Air Ambulance, Hospice Care, The Laura Persey Trust and Blackborough Village Hall.

devon rural events

Altitude Festival is run by Devon Rural Events, which is a not for profit community interest company. The company was incorporated in 2018 and 2025 will be our eighth Altitude festival.

The company has 4 directors - Phil Doodson, Jon Hague, Chris Westcott and Tom Curtis. We are all passionate about music and the arts (and also like standing around in fields).

If you ever see us out and about feel free to come over and say hi.

We aim to provide and support arts and music activities in rural communities to encourage social inclusion and economic growth. We also provide opportunities and inspiration for young people to get involved in the arts and music industry.

We do this by:

  • Curating music from diverse ethnicity, age and gender

  • Provide opportunities for young people to gain work experience and exposure to  the arts and music industry.

  • Supporting local businesses and artists

Should you want to get involved, by helping out, sponsorship or working with us, just email us at altitudevf@gmail.com.

We’d love to hear from you.

OUR ALTITUDE FAMILY

Devon Rural Events relies heavily on the generosity of others and we couldn’t do what we do without all the volunteers we have had over the years. From family members and friends who have we have badgered into helping, to new acquaintance’s, we’re always grateful to everyone who helps out.

Here’s a massive thank you and shout to you all!
